saturday morning stories

October 20, 2009

Let me tell you about college. I want to tell you for a few particular reasons. First and foremost, my friends and I have talked about telling our stories for four years now, and, honestly, I find them amazing, heartrending and most of all, hilarious. Maybe you will feel the same about our stories and maybe you won’t. But I hope that you will at least be entertained by the carefree and self-centered world that we lived in for these brief years of our lives. These moments (and countless more) have meant so much to me and I know they have meant so much to my good friends, and so this is for all of us.

It all started way back in 2004 when, after many long Friday nights out, we would wake up and go to the dining hall for brunch on Saturday morning and relive the previous evening’s events through our own perspectives, only to learn that our combined accounts made one hell of a good story. We initially thought about writing down our stories and sharing them with the public our junior year of college, partly because we were thinking it might be our big break and partly because we thought everyone would want to hear our tales. None of that is probably true, but I hope you enjoy regardless.

There are other reasons that I find this an appropriate (er, somewhat) topic for a blog. Let me just put it this way: I think the world should know who we really were. Don’t get me wrong, there will be many things in this blog that I pray my dad never reads, but as they always say, we’re all adults here…so let’s be mature about this. Besides, just because our parents’ stories of youthful debauchery only trickle into conversation gradually throughout the years, that doesn’t mean ours has to. In fact, I’m sure most people who graduate college with any dignity or reserve don’t tell the world much at all. Well, as you will read, we threw out dignity from our vocabulary around March of our first year in college, but in spite of this (or because of it), we managed to have the most amazing time…

The following stories are accounts of a group of friends who met at Saint Mary’s College in 2004. We were young and immature and had no idea what was in store for us. Saint Mary’s is an all-women’s college situated across the street from the University of Notre Dame. These stories by no means represent the College or anyone who has ever attended it, by the way. But, someone has to take responsibility for them, and that would be this tight-knit group of friends from SMC. We will be contributing our writing and stories in this blog, and we will all be introduced as the tales unfold.

So, without further ado, our Saturday morning stories.

Hello world!
